President's Message

Thank you for visiting the Rotary Club of West Haven website. Our Club is celebrating its 81st year of community service in West Haven, Connecticut. Rotary stands for Service above Self, and I am proud to work with my fellow Rotarians who volunteer their time and resources toward helping others.

Rotarians are asked to live by the 4 way test of the things we think, say or do: 1) Is it the Truth, 2) Is it Fair to all concerned, 3) Will it build Goodwill and better Friendship, and 4) Will it be Beneficial to all concerned.

Our club goals for this year are to continue our outreach in our community. We support many local charitable organizations such as WHEAT, Project Hope, and Beacon on the Hill, just to name a few.

We started a Rotaract Club at the University of New Haven that works along with our Rotary Club. They have signed up 70 students to participate in this their first year. They will do several community projects to provide assistance to others in our community.

We will give out Dictionaries to every 3rd grade student in West Haven’s public and private schools. We recognize a High School student monthly. We give out 12 scholarships to West Haven resident high school seniors going on to college. We also recognize West Haven and Notre Dame Scholar athletes annually. We recognize the Blind Veterans staying at our local VA hospital each year.

Our Club holds many fundraising events, all to raise funds to help others who are in need both locally and internationally. Our main fundraisers are “The Taste of West Haven” held annually in November, and “The Rotary Annual Auction”, which is held in April.

There are over 18,000 Rotary Clubs in the world and over 1 million Rotarians. Rotary is known world wide for eliminating 99.9% of polio in the world.

Fellowship and fun are hallmarks of our club. Our weekly luncheon meetings feature entertaining and thoughtful speakers. We encourage people to talk to our Rotarians and see what they might be able to do to help in our community. Maybe some might also become future Rotarians.
