Now that summer 2026 is drawing to a close and Halloween decorations are in the stores, let's look back at our Club's accomplishments.
Our Club held the Blind Veteran's lunch at the West Haven Veterans Museum and Learning Center. Once again, it brought our veterans and Rotarians together for fellowship. It's a small gift to show our respect and gratitude to our veterans. If you haven't participated, make it a point to join us next year!
We also participated in the meal packing event held in February. A total of 47,000 meals were created by the Rotary Clubs of West Haven, New Haven, Devon, Milford and Stratford.
This is our year of involvement in the Purple Pantry project. We bag and deliver much appreciated grocery items to the Purple Pantry box next to the Milford Senior Center. We partnered with Orange, Milford and Devon Rotary clubs, who each volunteered a year. A very special shout-out and thanks to Kathy Wielk, Phil and Dianne Milano, and Roland Depew. PLEASE, we could use your help. It takes less than an hour. It's in the spirit of service above self.
We served 350 pancakes to hungry Westies at our Pancake Breakfast. It was another fun and meaningful Rotary event. If you didn't make it this time, come and volunteer next year!
Many thanks to our fellow Rotarians that donated school supplies and cash. There will be many West Haven elementary school children starting the new year with needed supplies. Way to go!!
Plans are in the making for our 2nd Homecoming. More information to follow.
We are in discussions with Council woman, Meli Garthwait, regarding our participation in the Pet Parade in October. Stay tuned.
Our next lunch is August 26th at Lorenzo's at 12:15. This will be a special meeting with our District Governor Stephanie Phillips. Please make every effort to attend.
As we enter the change of season, remember that" the smallest act of kindness can create ripples beyond what we can see. Through our service, fellowship and commitment to "Service Above Self," we continue to make a difference."
Upwards and Upwards,
Leslie Cummings
